Ways to Treat and Alleviate Saggy Skin

Posted by Bold Commerce Collaborator on

Saggy skin is skin that hangs loosely from the body, creating a loose appearance. While some sagging skin is minor, other more severe forms of sagging skin is sometimes a concern for people who wish to remove it and is often corrected by surgical procedures, skin treatments, exercise and other methods. If sagging skin is a troublesome thing in your life, here are some ways you can help to alleviate it.

Causes of Sagging Skin

There are various reasons a person may have sagging skin. While some is genetic, sometimes sagging skin will occur do to other factors. Since all skin depends on an abundance of collagen and elastin to hold it up, sometimes the breakdown of these two substances will create a sagging appearance. Aging is another entity that can lead to sagging skin. As we age, our skin loses its ability to hold firm, thus drooping as we age. Premature aging, often caused by overexposure to the sun, is another reason for sagging skin, due to the breakdown of collagen and elastin. When this occurs, the more you expose yourself to the sun, the more your skin will droop.

Another cause for sagging skin is rapid weight loss, when extra skin that has built up due to weight gain is left hanging loose. When this occurs, sometimes the sagging is so severe that surgery must be undergone to correct it. Other times, exercise or firming creams are just the right solution to help the skin gain more tautness.

Treatment for Saggy Skin

Various forms of treatments involving the alleviation of sagging skin ranges from non-invasive to deeper treatments that promise to deliver a tighter complexion. The most subtle way of alleviating sagging skin is with the use of creams. Anti-aging products or those for demanding skin typically offer healthy ingredients that rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. However, it isn’t a miracle in a jar, but more of a treatment that helps to add suppleness to the skin and regenerate the cells.

Another form of treatment for loose skin are non-invasive treatments that can be performed in a clinic or spa. Rejuvenation methods with the use of fine needles are typically injected to create a reaction that will get your skin closer to it’s old vigor. Some types of non-invasive, out-patient procedures include laser resurfacing treatments and radiofrequency, both designed to penetrate and improve the complexion with as little downtime as possible.

In more severe cases, likely when someone has lost an exceptional amount of weight that has left loose skin all over the body, sometimes invasive surgical procedures are needed to tighten the skin. Body contouring surgery may require additional care and down time, but typically results in tighter skin that the patient can feel good about.

Preventing Sagging Skin

Sometimes the habits that we create over time can have a detrimental effect on our bodies, whether we realize it or not, so it’s important that we take good care of it. One way of doing so is my maintaining a healthy lifestyle that promotes healthy skin.

Exercise is one way to reduce the appearance of sagging skin, because when we sweat and our heart is pumping, blood circulation helps plump up the skin, build muscle and creates a more glowing complexion.

Alongside exercise should be a substantial amount of water consumption. Water helps to move nutrients around the body and flushes out toxins, so if you drink, water will help flush out alcohol and other substances from the body. Along with getting enough water is obtaining healthy eating habits. Eating a nutrient-rich diet will not only help keep you healthy, but will carry important vitamins and minerals to cells of your body, helping to regenerate and build muscle.

Of course, it’s also important to avoid exposure to the sun’s rays. UVA and UVB can lead to sunburn, which is sun damage that can wreak havoc on the skin. Additionally, the sun also has an aging effect. However, the sun is also important in delivering vitamin D, a key nutrient that helps encourage skin cell growth, metabolism, and repair.

Sagging skin happens to the best of us, but it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Keep these important tips in mind to ensure that your skin looks its best.
