Your Summer Skincare Routine

Posted by on

As warmer weather sneaks up on us, what changes are you making in your skincare routine to compensate for the change in temperature and humidity? While you may not need to replace your entire skincare routine, switching out one or two steps, and adding in a different product or two, can make your skincare routine more customized for the season.

Broad Spectrum SPF Protection

The most important thing you can do during the summer (and really, any season) is to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s rays. Sun damage causes 80% of visible skin aging, so a broad-spectrum sunscreen is an absolute necessity for smooth, healthy skin.

Face Guard Plus SPF30 - Janssen Cosmetics’ broad-spectrum sunscreen effectively protects skin against both UVB and UVA rays. The oil-free formula feels light on the skin while supplying essential moisture.

Excess Oiliness

The combination of summer heat and sweat can open up your pores, and make the natural sebum in your skin more liquid and more likely to exit the pore, leaving an oily-looking sheen on your skin. You may find that you need to switch to a lighter, oil-free moisturizer to reduce the oiliness on your skin. To regulate excessive oil production, consider using products that contain natural oil-regulating ingredients. The Janssen Cosmetics Oily Skin line contains an extract from olive leaves, oleanolic acid, which helps to reduce and balance sebum production.

Normalizing Skin Complex - Contains anti-sebum complex featuring olive leaf extract to control oil and prevent blemishes.

Aquatense Moisture Gel - An oil-free lotion that supplies intensive hydration without any greasiness or stickiness.

Advanced Cleansing

It can be tempting to scrub your skin excessively during the summer to try and combat the extra oil production, but be wary of over-cleansing, which can irritate your skin and cause it to produce MORE oil. Instead, remove makeup and impurities thoroughly using some of our innovative cleansers.

Multi Action Cleansing Balm - It may seem odd to cleanse your skin with an oil-based cleanser, but nothing dissolves oil like oil does. To thoroughly remove every trace of makeup, massage this cleansing balm over your dry skin, and then rinse away with warm water.

Micellar Skin Tonic - This refreshing cleansing water is very versatile and can be used in a variety of ways. Use it after your cleanser as a cleansing tonic to remove any residue that your first cleanser may have left behind. Or, use it during the day if you want to remove your makeup (for example when you get home) but don’t have time to do a full cleanse.

Dehydration

It can seem counterintuitive -- skin tends to be more oily during the summer, but it can quickly become dehydrated as well, lacking in moisture. One of the key parts of a summer skincare routine is replenishing that moisture without adding a lot of additional oil. Using products that contain hyaluronic acid can be very helpful, as this powerful humectant attracts up to 1000 times its own weight in water and binds it to your skin.

Hyaluron Fluid - This Janssen Cosmetics ampoule contains a potent hyaluronic acid formula, with both long-chain and short-chain hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin, saturate it with moisture, and protect it against drying out.

Hydrating Skin Complex - This deeply hydrating serum absorbs into the skin, moisturizing and plumping it up from within. Long and short-chain hyaluronic acid bind water to the skin, smoothing out dry skin creases and fine lines, while algae and desert plant extracts moisturize and protect skin.
